Start with one mini-list for each person
Clothes and personal-care items are easiest to manage person by person. It reduces the chance that one traveller has everything while another is missing basics.
- Underwear and socks.
- Everyday tops and bottoms.
- Sleepwear.
- Swimwear or activity clothing where relevant.
- Footwear.
- Personal toiletries.
- Medication or medical items specific to that traveller.
For younger children, it can help to add a small spare allowance for clothing because spills, weather and travel days can make changes more frequent.
Build a separate travel-day bag
Do not spread the things you need in transit across several suitcases. Keep the journey essentials together and accessible.
- Passports, required ID and tickets.
- Wallet and payment methods.
- Medication needed during travel.
- Snacks and child-friendly journey food where appropriate.
- Entertainment, headphones or comfort items.
- Wipes, tissues and a small rubbish bag.
- A useful spare change of clothing for young children or long journeys.
- Phone chargers or a power bank if needed.
Child-specific extras depend heavily on age
There is no useful universal children's list. A toddler and a teenager can be going on the same holiday and need completely different extras.
For babies or toddlers
- Nappies or toilet-training supplies.
- Feeding items.
- Comfort item.
- Pushchair or carrier if needed.
- Extra changes of clothing.
- Any sleeping equipment not supplied by the accommodation.
For older children
- Own headphones or entertainment.
- Chargers for devices they are bringing.
- Activity-specific clothing.
- Any school, sports or medical items needed during the trip.
Check every traveller's documents
Family travel can involve several passports, permissions and booking details. Check each traveller individually rather than assuming the group is covered because one document has been checked.
- Required passports or ID.
- Tickets and booking references.
- Any visa or entry requirements that apply.
- Insurance information if used.
- Medical information that needs to travel with the family.
- Any permission or supporting documents relevant to your circumstances.
For destination-specific requirements, use current official guidance rather than a generic packing article.
Use a system that shows who owns what
The bigger the group, the more useful ownership becomes. A family list should tell you both what is needed and who is responsible for it.
Packminder's Family Trips feature is designed around that idea for Pro accounts: separate travellers, shared items and one trip view instead of several disconnected notes.
Build one checklist for the whole family.
Tell Packminder about the trip first. It can organise the core checklist now, and Pro Family Trips can separate travellers and shared packing when you need it.
