Pack the beach items you will actually use

The obvious beach items are easy to remember, but they also create some of the biggest duplicates. Two or three useful items usually beat a bag full of similar ones.

  • Enough swimwear to rotate while another set dries.
  • A beach towel only if your accommodation does not provide one.
  • A lightweight beach bag.
  • Comfortable sandals or flip-flops.
  • A reusable water bottle.
  • Waterproof phone pouch or dry bag only if your plans justify it.
  • Snorkel gear, beach games or similar equipment only when you know you will use it.
Check what the hotel already provides

Beach towels, toiletries and hairdryers can take a surprising amount of suitcase space. If they are provided, leave yours at home.

Choose light clothes that work together

Warm-weather packing gets much easier when most tops work with most bottoms. You need fewer pieces and you are less likely to bring outfits that never get worn.

  • Breathable everyday tops.
  • Shorts, skirts, light trousers or dresses.
  • Underwear and socks where your footwear needs them.
  • Sleepwear.
  • One warmer layer for air-conditioned spaces, evenings or unexpected cooler weather.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for excursions away from the beach.

Sun and heat protection deserves its own check

Do not rely on buying everything after arrival. The products or sizes you prefer may not be easy to find, and sun protection is most useful from the start of the trip.

  • Suitable sun cream.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Hat or cap.
  • Light clothing that gives extra coverage when useful.
  • Water bottle.
  • After-sun or usual skincare if you use it.

Heat can also change the quantity of clothes you need. Hot days may mean more changes of tops, while access to laundry may mean you can still pack less overall.

Remember the holiday does not stop at the beach

Think about restaurants, day trips, travel days and any planned activities. A beach-focused suitcase still needs to work away from the sand.

  • One or two outfits suitable for the evenings you have planned.
  • A small day or evening bag.
  • Comfortable walking footwear.
  • A light outer layer.
  • Activity-specific clothing for boat trips, gyms, hiking or excursions.

Keep toiletries simple

Pack your normal daily essentials rather than building a completely new routine for the holiday. Add only what changes because of the destination.

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • Deodorant.
  • Haircare and skincare you genuinely use.
  • Shaving, makeup or contact-lens items where relevant.
  • Personal medication.
  • Sun cream and any after-sun products you prefer.

Check the destination before you zip the bag

Before travelling, check the expected weather, the plug type, required travel documents and your airline's baggage allowance. A warm destination can still have rain, cooler evenings or activities that need different clothes.

Packminder's Trip Info area is designed to keep several of those trip-specific checks next to the checklist rather than making you remember them separately.

Going somewhere sunny?

Let the destination decide the list.

Tell Packminder where and when you're going and it can build the checklist around the weather window, trip length, luggage and activities.
